1. Controller and service provider
App developer / service provider: Taipale IT Solutions Finland Email: lasse.tolvanen@taipaleit.fi Website: https://taipaleit.fi A Finnish business ID (Y-tunnus) is not published on this site until confirmed. In this Android version, pupil data is stored locally on the device. The school, teacher or guardian using the device effectively controls the local data. Taipale IT Solutions does not receive pupil data through a cloud registry built into this version.
2. Audience
Lukukaveri is an app for practising reading aloud. It is designed especially for children's practice and is used under guardian or school/teacher supervision. This page does not state a separate legal age rating unless one is decided for store publication.
3. Data the app processes
Microphone audio • The microphone is used to recognise reading attempts. • A short audio buffer is processed in memory. • Raw audio is not stored permanently in the app's own archive. • In Whisper Local mode, speech is processed on device (whisper.cpp / local Whisper model); audio is not sent to the OpenAI API for this provider. • With Android SpeechRecognizer, processing depends on the device and its speech service (may use the OEM or Google Play Services implementation). Practice and pupil data (local Room database) • pupil name, avatar, class/group • reading sessions (time, accuracy, WPM, difficult words, help uses) • homework • settings (font, sensitivity, etc.) in SharedPreferences • rewards / unlocked achievements Pilot diagnostics (if enabled in the build) • expectedWord, recognizedText, latency, provider, result and related technical fields • the report stays on the device • audio is not included • no pupil name, email or pupil ID in the diagnostics file • delete and export only via intentional Settings actions by the user/teacher
4. What is not collected (current build)
In the current version: • no user account / sign-in to Taipale servers • no pupil email address • no location • no advertising • no third-party advertising IDs • no raw audio archive • no Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics SDK (as of this page) Note: AndroidManifest includes the INTERNET permission. That does not mean pupil data is sent to Taipale. It relates among other things to system speech services when Android SpeechRecognizer is used.
5. Purposes
Data is used only for app features, such as: • running reading practice • showing progress • Lukupelastaja help • building local practice history • homework in the teacher view • technical piloting if diagnostics are enabled
6. Third parties and speech providers
Whisper Local • whisper.cpp and a local OpenAI Whisper model • on-device processing • no OpenAI API connection for this provider • using an open-source model locally is not the same as sending audio to the OpenAI Cloud API Android SpeechRecognizer • If device speech recognition is used, processing depends on the device and its speech service provider. Apple Speech Recognition • When the iOS version ships, this section will be updated with on-device vs server recognition details. Taipale IT Solutions does not sell pupil data and does not use third-party advertising in this version.
7. Retention
Local practice and pupil data remain on the device until deleted. Raw audio is not retained permanently. Local diagnostic data can be deleted in Settings. Pupil data is excluded from automatic cloud backup (backup_rules / data_extraction_rules). If a school cloud or user accounts are added later, this section will be updated before that feature ships.
8. Deletion
In the app: Settings → Privacy → Delete all pupil data Deletion removes pupils, groups, reading sessions, homework and unlocked achievements from that device. More: https://taipaleit.fi/lukukaveri/tietojen-poisto
9. Children's privacy
Lukukaveri is designed for children's reading practice. Data collection is minimised. Raw audio is not stored permanently. Third-party advertising is not used. The app does not ask the child to publish personal data online. A guardian or teacher can delete local practice and pupil data. On first launch a privacy summary is shown for acceptance.
10. Security
Data is minimised. Local storage is preferred. Children's audio recordings are not archived. We do not claim the app is 100% secure.
11. Changes
We may update this privacy policy when features or law change. The update date appears at the top of the page.
